About RideWindow
RideWindow is a motorcycle riding weather intelligence platform that helps riders make informed decisions about when to ride. By analyzing real-time weather data and forecasts, we calculate a comprehensive ride score that factors in temperature, precipitation, wind, visibility, road conditions, and daylight.
The score is normalised to a scale of 0–100. Six weather elements each contribute up to a maximum sub-score, but the total is not a simple sum — wet road grip sets an upper ceiling on the score, and three safety vetoes force it to 0 when conditions become genuinely dangerous.
The grip estimate assumes a clean, well-maintained asphalt surface. RideWindow scores the weather, not the road: gravel, debris, diesel, mud, road paint, patched or polished tarmac and anything else lying on the surface are invisible to it, and any of them can cost far more grip than a shower does.
Your comfort preferences shift the temperature and wind bands, and the rain probability threshold you set is baked into the precipitation sub-score. Your experience level adjusts how generously the algorithm treats marginal conditions.
The rating scale

Preferences
Everyone rides differently. In your account settings you can choose the minimum and maximum comfortable temperature, the maximum acceptable wind, and how much rain probability you will accept. Riders who don't mind the dark can enable night riding. Your experience level adjusts how generously the algorithm treats wind and rain. Every score you see is personalised — your preferences shift the comfort ranges behind the curtain but the scale is always 0–100.

Weather & sources
Forecasts come from Open-Meteo, a free, open-source weather API with no API key required. Locations are resolved through OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoder. All three are open data — RideWindow sits on top and adds the motorcycle scoring layer.
We cache every forecast for 15 minutes to stay within the free tier limits. A weather service is a moving target, so RideWindow's score is a weather opinion — useful, but not a safety guarantee.
Privacy
RideWindow stores nothing about your behaviour. Authentication uses standard cookies and the only persistent data we keep is your saved locations and preferences — all in the same account. We don't set cookies, don't track visitors, and don't share data with third parties. Our full privacy statement is available on the privacy page.
